My facial skincare routine is working so well right now. But the rest of my body has really needed some serious TLC! I blame it on my overly jealous exfoliation. You know I love my body scrubs!

This is the lip item that is completely unplanned for, out of your "normal" realm in color, texture or brand, and probably not the cheapest product at the makeup counter. Perhaps, it's a limited edition shade that may be unavailable the next time you return, so you go for it!

Day 7...Splurge on the Unexpected!
My most recent lippie splurge was made online. I took a risk on a new-to-me formula and brand — Chantecaille Lip Chic in Capucine. While I've used Chantecaille products before, I've never tried one of their lipsticks. But I wanted to qualify for free shipping, so I took a big chance on an untested product and SCORED!

If you haven't tried a Lip Chic, you're in for an awesome ride. It's a revolutionary hybrid product that combines the rich, even coverage of a lipstick with the high-shine and plumping effects of a gloss. Here's to day 6 of our Lip Love series! Today's post was inspired by a recent trip where I had to bag and submit my 8 (yes, 8) lip products to the TSA folks before I could board my flight. (Remember, we still need to put all liquid, gel, and cream-based products in a single quart-size Ziplock bag before passing through airport security!) If only there was another way...

Day 6...Sneak Past Security with an All-Over Lip Pencil!
The good news — there is a "solid" workaround. Choose a jumbo lip pencil instead of a lipstick! I learned this trick from a frequent flyer friend who scrutinizes every inch of her baggie and finds creative alternatives for her favorite liquid products. Because it's a pencil, it can stay in your purse or makeup bag as you pass through security.

To clarify, I'm not talking about a lip liner pencil, but rather a jumbo-sized lip pencil that offers the convenience of a lipstick in pencil form. My favorites for this task are NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. They provide a long-wearing, pigmented punch of color that isn't drying. I find their texture to be super creamy and emollient.

For a versatile day-to-evening option, I like Dolce Vita shade. It's a dusty rose that works beautifully for most complexions. If you want to take it up a notch in color, choose something bolder such as Pop Life (a shimmering red) that I reviewed last fall.

Day 5...Snag a Drugstore Performer + A Sexy Red!
Drugstore lip sticks are very underrated in my opinion. Why? They are the perfect price point for exploring a new color family or formula without breaking the bank. If it works out, you've just saved a few bucks. And, if it's a dud, you're not out too much.

Last fall Revlon Lip Butters were getting all the positive hype by beauty bloggers and community web sites. I didn't fall for them at this time since I assumed the buzz would eventually die down. But, oh I was wrong! Nearly four months later, and this drugstore lippie is still getting good press.

Last week at Ulta, I spotted the Revlop Lip Butter promo at the end of an aisle. While there were no testers to play with, I decided to purchase one without swatching first. I could see through the plastic top so it gave me an idea of what the colors looked like. I immediately picked Candy Apple, a warm red shade, as it was the last one left — usually a good sign of a popular color.

Just like a kid in a toy store, I couldn't wait to get outside and burst open the seal. I tested it immediately once I had access to my car mirror. And...I loved it!

Candy Apple definitely is on the orange side of red, which always looks better on my skin. It was pretty pigmented, too. I had to apply lightly so as not to go overboard with the rich color. The surprise was how good it felt on my lips. It was buttery — more like a gloss — and nicely hydrating. And it wore amazingly well.

My only complaint is that you shouldn't apply to chapped lips or it will emphasize the dry patches. I experienced this issue several days later. However, I remedied the problem by putting on an even coat of Bobbi Brown's Lip Balm SPF 15. This extra layer of moisture played nicely with the Lip Butter and took care of the flakes.

Overall...Candy Apple is both a great drugstore performer and a sexy red. Perfect for my Valentine's Day date with my husband!

Welcome to day four of Lip Love series. Since we've covered the practical items in the previous three posts, today we'll explore one of the season's hottest lip colors...coral! I always try to find a new lip color each season. It's an inexpensive way to change up your look and be on trend.

Day 4...Exploring Early Spring's Hottest Color
Early spring makeup collections are always a winner for me since they usually include a bright coral. Since I have neutral coloring, coral is one of my most flattering lip colors as it straddles both the warm (orange) and cool (pink) hues. Honestly, I wear this color all year since it works so well for me.

If you are warmer, pick a coral with more orange. And, if you're cooler, go with one with more pink. If you're not sure where you fall, ask a makeup artist at one of your favorite counters.

At a January Trish McEvoy event at my local Nordstrom where I had my makeup done, the makeup artist chose Flawless Lip Color in Perfect Coral. It's a new Trish shade that packs a ton of color. It reminded me more of a lip stick since it was more matte than anything. But it applied like butter, so I knew it was a gloss. The best part — it's long wear!

The artist first applied a neutral lip liner and then gently pressed the gloss on my lips using her fingers. Now I've used that technique with lip sticks, but I never thought to do it with a gloss. Wow... the gloss stayed intact for nearly four hours. While I'd expect those results from a lip stick or stain, I never get this staying power from a gloss. Sold!

If Perfect Coral is too bold for you, Trish's other new shade — Coral Shimmer — might be another good coral option. It's less matte and a bit more toned down. Better yet, play with both shades or even pair them together.

It's day 3 in our Lip Love series. Today we'll focus on the importance of adding a lip gloss with SPF 15+ to your lippie collection. Similar to finding your tried and true shade, you also need a versatile gloss that can protect your lips from the sun. It can carry you from season to season and be a staple in your purse or cosmetic bag.

Day 3...Protect Your Lips with an SPF 15+ Lip Gloss
Nine times out of 10, I'll opt for a gloss. My lips are usually dry and most glosses provide extra moisture and soothing properties than typical lip sticks. But I don't like to sacrifice sun protection or color payoff, especially when I'm on vacation and want to scale back on my number of lip products that I bring.

A good solid lip gloss should provide both of these features. If not, it's time to search for a new one. One of my new favorites is Chantecaille Lip Gloss SPF 15 in Dragonfruit (a coral peach shade). When applied, Dragonfruit feels just like my favorite lip balm. But it also delivers a nice punch of color that wears well, isn't too sticky, and without any glitter. I hate glitter in my gloss! The only downer is that I do have to apply with a lip brush or use my finger. But it's lovely silver case makes up for that negative since it doubles as a compact so I don't have to carry a separate mirror. Plus, the container is loaded with product so I don't have to replace frequently.

It's those little perks that make this gloss worth the splurge!

Day 2: Lip Love - Find Your Tried and True Shade

Welcome to day 2 of the Lip Love series that we introduced yesterday. Today's post is all about finding your own tried and true shade — and formula — that you can put on anytime, anywhere. It's a seasonless hue that is very close to the natural color of your own lips. You can wear it to work, on the weekend, and even a special event. It's easy and it complements your best features!

Day 2...Find Your Tried and True Shade
For many women, we overthink our tried and true lip stick shade. Instead we splurge on a sexy red or nude that so often ends up unused at the bottom of the makeup drawer. While there's nothing wrong in having these special shades, I encourage you to find your tried and true shade first and then build out the rest of your lippie collection.

Over the years, I've had a handful of amazing tried and true shades. Sadly, most were limited edition or now discontinued like Lancôme 'L'Absolu' Rouge in Rose Divine (sniffle, sniffle). But I don't let that defeat me. I get back up and look for something new.

Last December I fell in love with Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture SPF 15 in 016 Rouge Roxane. However, this orange red shade is not always appropriate for every occasion. But since I loved the formula, I went back to my YSL counter and looked for something near my own lip color. I chose shade 015 Brun Sienne, which is a rose brown shade. (On me, it pulls more neutral than in the photo above.)

Because it mimics my own lips, I can easily wear it with orange, red, purples, teals, navy, black, etc. I never have to worry about it standing out and clashing with my clothes. And that dear friends is the reason you need a tried and true shade! It's versatile and doesn't require a special outfit or occasion. You feel good wearing it and it brings out your best features.

Day 1: Lip Love - Get Primed & Ready!

Lip products are my favorite beauty items for brightening complexions and giving fresh new looks. This week I'll feature a new lip love each day. My goal is that you'll ditch that old lippie (you know...the one you've been wearing since college) and fall head over heels with a brand new lip love!

Day 1...Get Primed and Ready
It's essential to prime the lips before we do anything else. This key step conditions the lips and helps extend the wear of your lipstick or gloss. If I want my lip color to stay intact for several hours without feathering or bleeding outside of my lip lines, I'll reach for a lip primer such as Trish's Flawless Lip Primer. For me, Flawless Lip Primer works better than a regular lip balm. Why? It has a matte consistency that grabs the color and keeps everything from moving.

For best results, you need to apply a light layer of Flawless Lip Primer to naked lips and let it absorb for a minute or two. You'll know it's ready when the consistency changes from a regular lip balm feel to a slightly tackier feel. Then, apply your favorite lip product and go.

Since you only use a tiny amount for each application, the slender tube will last forever. I use mine almost daily and I'm still working through the original tube that I purchased two years ago!

The Balm is the Bomb: Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15

One of my pesky skin care issues is constant dry lips, especially during the winter months. Their utterly annoying and prevent my lip color from applying smoothly. To help remedy the problem, I always apply a thick coating of By Terry Baume De Rose at night. It's one of those holy grail products that I can't live without. However, it is super pricey and its glass pot container isn't practical for day use as it takes up extra space in my handbag and I'm always afraid of breaking it.

One amazing — wallet-friendly — alternative is Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15. Specially formulated with Wheat Germ and Olive Oil, this comfortable, non-greasy lip balm immediately goes to work comforting and protecting lips. Beyond the Iconic Trench: Burberry Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation

When I think about Burberry, my mind immediately pictures a nicely structured, yet elegant, trench. Perhaps in a lovely shade of teal or maybe practical beige. Add some striped rain boots, and I'm ready for a London stroll in the rain. Back to reality...I live in Southern California and rain is rare in these neck of the woods. However, I can still appreciate some Burberry, but instead from the beauty department.

Recently, I visited the Burberry counter in Nordstrom South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa, CA). We don't have a counter in San Diego county, so this was the closest one to me. I was extremely curious about trying Burberry Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation as I've heard nothing but positive feedback.

A friendly sales associate from another line offered to match me since the Burberry counter manager was not available. She automatically reached for Trench No. 3 — a light beige shade with peach undertones. Its peach undertones reminded me of Trish McEvoy's Treatment Foundation in Cream.

For the past week or so, I've been testing a store sample of No. 3 and experienced favorable results. On the skin, it was a tad dark, but it was very sheer and blendable and seemed to melt into my skin. I feared that it would oxidize to a darker hue with time, but it remained true to its original shade throughout the day. (Note, next time I'll try No. 4 as it seems more yellow and less peach, which might be a better match for me.)

I immediately loved how it hydrated my skin, similar to a moisturizer. What surprised me most was that even though the product is sheer, it is extremely buildable if I want more coverage. It also wore extremely well throughout the day although my t-zone did get slightly oily in the late afternoon. I found that a light dusting of powder after application took care of this issue.

Overall, it was quite lovely and a viable alternative to Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA.

A Drugstore 2-for-1 Dry Hair Wonder: L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner

I've tried countless times to find drugstore hair products that impressed me. But I usually end up wasting my pennies on products that don't work for my hair type — dry, curly, and extremely sensitive to sulfates and silicones. However, after hearing some positive buzz around the beauty blogs and curly hair web communities, I decided to try L'Oreal's EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner. It's part of a new drugstore product line designed for dryer hair types.

EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner is is an ultra-gentle, combination of 1/4 cleanser + 3/4 moisture, which is formulated with Omega-3 and 6 to leave hair super soft and nourished without weighdown. According to L'Oreal, its a low-poo, or low-lather, cleansing product that reduces friction of the hair fiber to help minimize breakage.

In my experience, there is absolutely no lather. It's pretty much like trying to use conditioner as a cleanser, which is a growing trend in the curly girl community. Unfortunately, I've never had great luck with low-poo products since they just weighdown my hair and leave flaky buildup. But I decided to give this one a whirl.

On the first "shampoo," I made the mistake of not following the directions correctly. I treated EverCream Cleansing Conditioner as a regular shampoo and rinsed it out immediately and followed with my regular conditioner, Matrix Biolage hydrathérapie Conditioning Balm. I then washed out the conditioner and applied a leave-in conditioner plus gel. Once my hair dried, I immediately noticed that my hair was over conditioned and extremely dull. Rather than wait a few days between shampoos, I immediately went back to my regular shampoo and conditioner routine the next day. And, I had the best hair day ever! Hmm...interesting.

I don't give up easy, so I gave EverCream Cleansing Conditioner another shot. This time I read the directions on the bottle! I realized that I needed to leave the product in my hair for 1 to 2 minutes BEFORE rinsing. Since I was shaving my legs, it probably stayed on for about 5 minutes. In addition, I generously worked the product in through from root to end. The last time I just applied to my scalp since I was treating it more as a shampoo.

I also read on the bottle that there is no need to use another conditioner. So, I went ahead and combed it through at the 3-minute mark just as I do with the Biolage rinse-out conditioner. Since the comb slipped through my hair super easily, I skipped the Biolage. However, I still used my leave-in and styling gel combo.

Once my hair was completely dry, it was incredibly shiny and soft — yet not over conditioned — and my curls were well defined. The typical "extra" hair volume and frizz were gone even on a rainy day, a curly girl's worst nightmare! In fact, it stayed nearly perfect for another two days.

I've repeated the same process four times and had the best hair days ever. My only complaint...the product's pump. It's terrible in dispensing the rich product. I think it would dispense easier from a tube.

Post-Workout Muscle Reviver: AHAVA Mineral Bath Salt in Sugared Fig

January is my up-the-ante workout month where I meet with a trainer for a few weeks to get my bod in better shape for the new year. However, my muscles always take a beating after these intense training sessions, and I long for instant relief! One way I'm dealing with the pain is via my tub and a big ol' handful of bath salts. There is something so wonderfully therapeutic in these salts from the sea.

One of my new favorites — AHAVA Mineral Bath Salt in Sugared Fig — was discovered after Christmas on a clearance shelf at my local Ulta. This limited-edition item contains 100% pure Dead Sea salts that are scented with natural oils. This sugary fig combination is both sweet and fruity, a combination that I love.

For best results, I'll pour a generous handful (or two) of salts into my bath water while it's running. I'll then sit back, relax and soak for 20 minutes. It's the perfect amount of time to completely unwind and let the salts work their magic on my sore muscles. I also find that a good soak helps me sleep like a baby!

Another Take It Off Solution: La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution

Last year I swooned over my French makeup remover find — Bioderma Crealine H2O Micellar Solution — that I stockpiled in my suitcase before I left Europe. Well...just as my stash was running low, I received a sample of La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution. It's another French miscellar water, but this one is more readily available here in the U.S.

La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution is a gentle water-based product that is ideal for removing makeup without upsetting your skin's natural moisture levels. It is formulated with poloxamer, a gentle cleansing agent often used in contact lens solutions, and thermal spring water, which calms the skin and protects against free radicals. According to the company, this product is ideal for all skin types, but especially sensitive and redness-prone skin. I love it because the product is not greasy so it won't irritate my contacts or delicate under-eye area.

I've been using it primarily to spot remove any eye makeup residue (liner, mascara, etc.) after I've cleansed my face. While I do a good job of facial cleansing, there's always a good chance that I've left something behind that needs to be removed before I go to bed. Likewise, it's also a good choice for cleaning up any makeup boo-boos along the way. No rinsing required!

For best results, decant the product into a Sephora flip-top container so you don't waste a precious drop.

A Warm Bronzer for the Dead of Winter: Trish McEvoy Bronzer Golden

If you think bronzer should only be worn during the warm months, you need to change your ways! During January, I've relied on my trusty bronzer to warm up my pale winter face and take me from whoa to wow. (OK...my face is always pale, but it's even more so right now.)

While I own several different bronzer brands and shades in my collection, I've recently been reaching for Trish McEvoy Bronzer Golden. It's a sheer golden matte shade that is lighter than the others in my drawer. I find this hue is just right for winter when I'm the palest and don't want an over-the-top, unnatural glow. This time of year your bronzer should be warm in hue, but not cross into orange-tone territory or it will look like a bad fake tan. Keep it golden, light, and translucent.

Right now, I also prefer no extra sparkle in my bronzer since my blush has a bit of shimmer and I don't want the two to compete. (Conversely, if I'm using a matte blush I will opt for a bronzer with shimmer, such as Trish's Dual Resort Bronzer.)

In addition to its brilliant hue, Trish's Bronzer Golden applies so evenly and stays on throughout the day. I simply use the side of my brush to sweep color in a “C” shape from the widow’s peak, along the hairline and to the apple of the cheek. It blends to a perfection for the a natural winter glow.

In December, I tackled a big home organization project. While I was redoing my kitchen setup, I found a brand new tub of Huggies Sensitive Wipes in one of my cupboards. I had purchased it years ago when we were redoing our backyard and our dogs were tracking in mud. I kept the wipes by the door and cleaned the dogs' paws after every backyard visit. Along the way, I must have pushed the box to the back of the cupboard and forgotten. Hmm...what's a girl to do? How about using them as makeup remover wipes? Bingo.

Before the first pass across my face, I did read the label since my skin is pretty sensitive and I didn't want to cause irritation or dryness. No problem here as these particular wipes are fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and alcohol-free. After my first use, my face felt clean, make-up free, and well balanced. I did have to do a second pass under my eyes to remove all of my mascara, but that was easy peasy.

What really surprised me is the quality of the wipes. First, each wipe is huge! You could easily cut them in half if needed. Second, these babies are amazingly durable. They're super strong and thicker than most of the makeup wipes I've used. I'll admit they did shed a bit, but nothing too bothersome.

Plus, the one-handed pop-up dispenser is brilliant. This comes in handy (no pun intended) when you're holding a mascara wand in one hand and you need to quickly reach for a wipe with the other.

The final wow factor...price! These wipes are so wallet friendly especially if you purchase the big bag of refills.

Primed to Pefection: Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials in Nude

I do not touch-up my eye makeup throughout the day. When I apply it in the AM, I expect it to last all day without creasing or dissipating into thin air. But I am also a realist who understands that using an eye shadow primer is essential to achieving this longevity makeup goal.

Over the years, I've tried numerous primers from the most popular brands to obscure ones available only through select retailers. From trial and error, my favorites are those that blend easily and closely match the color of my eyelid to cover darkness and any discoloration. Also, my eye primer must not be drying at all or it will make a flaking mess!

To date, Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials is the only eye primer that meets those objectives. It lays down beautifully and never interferes with my eye shadows. Yet, I always wished for a slightly better color match. Bare was pretty close, but a tad too orange when paired with my lighter shadows. Demure was spot on color wise, but it had a slight sparkle to it that wasn't always ideal especially if my eye shadow was metallic or shimmery. And her other shades were either too dark or light...sigh.

But her recent release of the Nude shade (as part of her Resort 2012 Collection) is now my perfect match. I received a "sneak" peek GWP sample in early December from my local counter and I've used it every day since. It's a bit lighter (and more yellow) than Bare. I also find it to be a bit creamier in texture than her other shades. And when applied it conceals everything!

For best results, I swipe two small horizontal stripes with the wand across my entire lid. I'll then pat softly and blend with Trish's Brush 40 Medium Laydown. You want to apply generously so that it covers the entire lid and try to get as close to your lash line as possible. It's that easy!

2011 Recap: Use It Up Product Challenge

In January, I made a New Year's resolution to track all of the beauty items that I finished during the year. To date, I've now used 109 products in 2011.

The sole intention was to challenge myself to purposefully utilize my current beauty product stash. Why? It's too darn easy to accumulate excess products that never get fully consumed especially when you are a beauty blogger AND a product junkie! Throughout the year, I've been posting weekly (or twice a month) recaps of my usage. Personally, it's been interesting to see what gets used up (and often replaced) most.

Key revelations from this challenge are:

Minimize lip gloss and eye shadow purchases since they are rarely used completely.
Purchase backups of "holy grail" staples when they are sale or during promotional (e.g., buy 2, get 1 free) events.
Refrain from buying makeup palettes to avoid product waste. It's rare that all 10 shades work for me!
Get samples first, if possible, before committing to a purchase. Nowadays it's perfectly acceptable to request a sample from your department store, Ulta, or Sephora.
Return, swap, or give away items that aren't working. Don't waste space on the duds!

Origins Ginger Float: This bubble bath brought back so many memories from the late 90s (Review October 2011). I loved using it again and relaxing in its lovely froth. (Skip: While I enjoyed using every last drop, I'll be rotating in other bath products that I've accumulated.)
Trish McEvoy Lash Curling Mascara: This mascara has been a staple for several years now. I rotate between it and her High Volume Mascara. (Skip: I have an extra High Volume one that I need to use first before repurchasing.)
Matrix Biolage hydrathérapie Conditioning Balm: This conditioner continues to be a staple in my shower. (Review June 2010, Mention Dec. 2010). I picked it up on vacation in June 2010 and I'm still pretty much using Conditioning Balm exclusively even after the formula changed. (Repurchase: I plan to buy another one today.)
Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift: I forget how well this eye product worked (Review August 2011)! I recently rediscovered it in my stash and I've been using it in combination with my Chanel Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer to hide my lack of sleep. (Backup: I found an extra that was included with a Trish skin care set that I purchased earlier in the year.)

Deborah Lippman Nail Lacquer in Fashion: While I love all of the trendy polish shades, sometimes a girl needs a simple neutral that goes with everything. And if if stays intact without chips for more than a week, I'm sold! Fashion is probably the best wearing polish that I've worn in a very long time. It's my go-to shade for vacations, interviews with new clients, etc.

Bioderma Crealine H2O Miscellar Solution: I always discover unique beauty finds when I travel abroad. And, this miscellar solution was one of my best treasures from our 2011 trip to France. It is an exceptional oil-free makeup remover that gently removes long-wearing makeup without leaving any residue behind. In addition, it doesn't bother my contacts. I've decanted it into a Sephora Flip Top Dispenser so I don't waste a drop. When I run out, I'll be headed back to France!

Trish McEvoy The Power of Tools Makeup Brush Collection: I have a big weakness for brushes! And nothing beats the limited-edition sets from Trish. I went mad for this one especially since it included a few new brushes that were not available individually. My favorite is Brush 16 Ultra Detailed Eye Lining, which is perfect for getting a thin, precise line right next to my lashes. If you can still find this set, grab it now or it will be gone forever!

Trish McEvoy Black Rose Oud: The same weekend I purchased the brush set, I discovered this new Trish fragrance — a blend of exotic spices, sensual woods, and rose. Normally I don't like anything with rose in it, but this one has reaped the most complements of any fragrance that I've worn. And, it's still turning heads!

Neocutis LUMIÈRE Riche Bio-restorative Eye Cream: I can honestly say that this eye cream may be the only one that I'll buy for the rest of my life. For years I've been searching and this one stole my heart. A close second is their lighter version. I found both eye creams this year!

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lip Color in 016 (Rouge Roxane): Yes, it's true...I was starstruck by a lip stick, not a gloss. This lovely long-wearing shade of luscious red-orange with golden undertones just lights up my face. And it's super hydrating so I don't worry about it drying out my lips.

My Favorite Beauty Products of 2011: Part 1 of 2

In late December, I love to look back and highlight my favorites items — those new-to-me products that I've incorporated into my current beauty routine. For the next several days, I will be featuring my favorites from 2011. You'll note that some are brand new products that entered the marketplace in 2011, while others are oldies that have been around for decades.

Eve Lom Cleanser: Ironically, this was the very first product that I reviewed in 2011. I had been on the lookout for a new facial cleanser, and this one wooed and won. It has both cleansing and gently exfoliating properties. Plus, it thoroughly removes my makeup and sunscreen so I don't need a separate cleanser for this task. It's also very travel friendly since the product's thick cream consistency can't easily escape its container. While it's price point may be a barrier to entry, you need to remember that it's a multi-tasker so it may replace two or three other products in your routine.

john masters organics citrus & neroli detangler: Technically, I tried this leave-in conditioner a few times in 2010. However, it wasn't until 2011 that I gave it a full run and reported that it had officially replaced my beloved Kiehl's Leave-in Conditioner that was discontinued. Throughout the year, I've consistently used this leave-in after every shampoo. It's super moisturizing, aromatic, and plays nicely with my other styling products. Sold!

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream: Without a doubt, keeping my hands and cuticles moisturized is my toughest beauty challenge especially during the winter (and flu) months. Hand washing is a killer! But this lovely cream has been a life saver. It's waxy texture makes it more difficult to wash away, and I love its convenient tin packaging. I throw one in my purse, gym bag, car, etc. so I always have one with me.

Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA: Chanel introduced this new foundation in 2011, and I started using it as soon as it became available. In fact, I was one of the first to be color matched (B10) at my local counter. Right away, I was impressed by it's feather light consistency that was unlike other foundations that I've tried. It had amazing staying power and the color was spot on. I've used in both dry and humid environments without any negative reactions. I've purchased my second bottle now, which is a first for me.

Neocutis JOURNÉE Bio-restorative Day Cream: If you haven't caught on, I love multi-taskers. And for years, I've been searching for a daytime moisturizer with a SPF 30. But I hit failure after failure, and I thought I never would find one that played nicely with my makeup, didn't cause irritation, and protected my skin from burning. Thanks to a recommendation from my esthetician, I finally hit the jackpot with JOURNÉE. I've repurchased several times now and it's carried me from season to season without a miss.

Goof-Proof Makeup: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

Now that my big holiday events are over the last thing I want to do is think about my makeup. Instead, it's time to lounge in my pjs, watch old movies, and just hang out with the family. But that doesn't mean I won't rely on an easy-to-use face enhancing product to still look my best!

After washing and moisturizing my face, I've been applying Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (Nude shade) in place of my regular foundation. It's a sheer wash of color that adds a healthy glow along with the protection of SPF 20. It feels hydrating and just SO good on especially now as I'm recovering from a cold and my skin is dryer (and pastier) than normal.

I love that Laura's Tinted Moisturizer is so go-proof in its application. Use your fingers, sponge, or even a foundation brush. Really, you can't wrong in applying it as long as you're using the right shade. I can't overly emphasize the importance of getting matched correctly. You see...I was previously matched with Porcelain about four years ago. I tried using this shade several times, but it washed me out so much that I felt overly made up and totally unnatural. While others raved about its benefits, I couldn't understand its appeal.

However, my opinion changed recently when I received a GWP-side store sample in shade Nude. I was skeptical, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Wow...it lightly covered my imperfections without feeling heavy or overly matte. For me, it's just right in both color and texture especially on those days when I don't need the coverage of a foundation or want to be bothered with its application.

This past week or so I've been fighting serious holiday fatigue and a nasty sinus bug. The end result...a lifeless complexion that resembles Casper the Friendly Ghost.

The last two weeks have been INSANE! Yes, the holiday and work stuff have been tough, but when your husband fractures his hip everything goes haywire. Trust me on this one.

Black eye liner really doesn't work for me. Quite frankly...it's just too harsh with my fair complexion and eye color (dark hazel). And, brown isn't the best color match either. So, what's a girl to do?

REN Radiance Perfecting Serum: I started using this serum daily in August and my skin soaked up its powerful, yet gentle, energizing ingredients (Review September 2011). I loved how it perked up my face without any ugly side effects (dryness, breakouts, redness, etc.). I've gone nearly a week without and I'm already getting withdrawals. Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Hand Creme: My hands have taken a beating with frequent washing and holiday work (tree trimming, baking, etc.). Review Deux: Josie Maran Argan Oil

It's rare for me to go back and write a second review of a product. But today I'm making the exception for Josie Maran Argan Oil, which I featured in September. In my original review, I touted the product's fine moisturizing properties for hair. Today, I'll focus on how well it's healing my dry, irritated skin.

Most folks get queasy when you mention using oil-based products on your face or body. Immediately, we all have visions of out-of-control acne, increased oil production, and other icky side effects at the mere thought of using anything with oil. But I've found through product experimentation that the right oils, when used properly, can produce the opposite effects — deep healing, nourishment, and even reduced scarring.

Over the past two months, I've been incorporating Josie Maran Argan Oil into my skin routine. This "liquid gold" product is all-natural, 100% organic, and chemical free with a high concentration in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It provides astonishing healing, conditioning, and anti-aging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe.

More specifically, I've been using this Argan Oil to hydrate and heal my upper back area, which is extremely prone to breakouts. Where do I start first? My toe polish. For this month's pedicure, I selected Deborah Lippman's My Old Flame Nail Lacquer and I couldn't be happier. This shade is what I'd describe as a "true" red. Not too cool; not too warm. It's the perfect neutral tone with a rich creme finish that glides on in two easy coats.

When it comes to red shades, I always prefer cremes (not glitters, sheers, or metallics) because I feel that this formula wears longer than others. So far, I'm at day 10 and my toe polish is totally intact without any wear or tear.

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion for Face & Body SPF 60 PA+++: I finished up at least two bottles during the past 9 months or so (Review August 2010). I forgot to mention the first one. This sunscreen continues to be my staple although I'm not wearing it daily since my moisturizer contains SPF 30. However, if I'm out in the sun longer than an hour or so, I definitely apply this product generously. (Repurchase: Done. I grabbed a bottle during Sephora's VIP 20% off promotion.)
Eve Lom Cleanser: I started using this luxury facial cleanser last year and I've continued to rotate it in whenever possible (Review Jan. 2011). (Repurchase: I purchased it during the last Beauty.com promotion.)

Neocutis JOURNÉE Bio-restorative Day Cream: To date, this is the only moisturizer with sunscreen that has worked on my skin (Review April 2011.) Until I started using JOURNÉE, I always used a separate sunscreen. But now I can save an extra step in my skincare routine without jeopardizing my sun protection. (Repurchase: I ordered another bottle during a LovelySkin promotion several weeks ago.)

Cake Beauty Desserted Island Supremely Rich Bath & Shower Froth: What a lovely bath treat that has grace my tub since August (Review Aug. 2011). This one is so concentrated that you only need a capful for a full tub o' bubbles. (Skip: I won't repurchase right now as I have other bath goodies to finish.)
Yes To Cucumbers On The Go Facial Wipes: These wipes have been a godsend (Review May 2011). I use them so frequently to remove makeup or do a quick clean up. I find they're faster and easier to use than makeup remover (with cotton pads). (Repurchase: Yes.)
Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Creme: This moisturizer is still my fave (Review July 2010).I'll occasionally rotate in other moisturizers, but I faithfully return to it after a week or so. (Repurchase: By all means!)
L'Occitane Amande Shower Oil: I can't shave without it (Review Nov. 2009), and now my husband uses it too. (Repurchase: I bought two big bottles last weekend. Hint: Nordstrom carries the deluxe size!)
Josie Maran Argan Oil: I finished up my GWP size and now I'm totally hooked (Review Sept. 2011). I use it as a pre-shampoo treatment at least once a week. And I've also been using it as a body moisturizer on my upper shoulders. The area is super sensitive and prone to breakouts, but the argan oil is super healing and nourishing.

My New Hair Healer: Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment

I treat my curly locks with tender loving care. No heat. Minimal washing with sulfate-free shampoos. Frequent deep conditioning and regular trims. But it is still prone to damage, dryness, and loss of shine. I blame it on the curls! (The every other month color treatment doesn't help, either.) What I would do to get that virgin hair from my early childhood!

Well...I can't turn back the clock, but I can try to undo some of the dryness and damage. For the last several weeks, I've been experimenting with Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment — an intensive weekly treatment that nourishes each strand, increasing strength and manageability.

According to the company, Restore Mask Treatment is designed to restore the protective layer on dry or damaged hair and reduce hair's porosity by 100%. Restore makes dry or damaged hair look, feel, and behave like virgin hair and increases hair's resistance to breakage up to nine times while healing, protecting, and preventing further damage.

What's my take? I used Restore Mask Treatment several days after my last color treatment. Usually my hair feels extremely soft after coloring since the hair coloring process (aka chemicals) closes the hair cuticle and makes it less prone to dryness and frizz. However, this time my hair felt like straw with tangles underneath. So...three days after my color treatment I washed my hair and followed with a generous dollop of Restore Mask Treatment. I left it on for five minutes and rinsed. Then, I used my leave-in conditioner and regular styling products. The end result: shiny, soft, frizz-free hair. In fact, I've went three days without washing and my hair looked (and felt) amazing. A week later I repeated the treatment and my hair looked even better.

While I'm still experimenting with the product, I'm impressed with its positive results so far. Virgin hair? Well...pretty darn close!

The Gift of Relaxation in the Tub: Pharmaca Bath Salts in Lemongrass & Sage

With Thanksgiving only three days away, you're probably thinking about all the life stuff that needs to get done between now and then especially if you're hosting the big Turkey Day feast. Grocery shop. Clean. Airport runs. Last-minute work deadlines. Yikes!

My Little Shadow Of Greyness: Trish McEvoy Eye Shadow in Soft Grey

I've been on a quest to find the right grey eye shadow for my skin tone (neutral fair) and eye color (dark hazel). Along the way, I've tried oodles of greys that either turn unflattering shades of blue or brown. Not that anything is wrong with blue or brown...I simply want my grey!

During Nordstrom Anniversary sale, I spotted a new grey shadow — Soft Grey — that was included in one of the exclusive Trish McEvoy makeup planner kits. The good news is that Trish's Soft Grey has now been released as an individual eye shadow in her Chic and Sheer Collection. No need to purchase an entire kit!

I swear that Soft Grey was created just for me. It's a long-wearing matte shadow that reminds me of the "gray" Crayola. Seriously...it's right on the color mark. When I apply it as a crease color, Soft Grey says right on hue. It doesn't turn other colors. It simply stays grey. And stay it does. Like all of Trish's matte eye shadows, this baby doesn't budge all day especially if paired with one of her Eye Base Essentials. No creases or smudges. Just pure ol' greyness.

Off-Topic Review: SALONPAS Pain Relief Patch

I don't usually stray off topic, but today I'm making an exception. Last weekend I was miserable thanks to some unknown shoulder inquiry. I don't remember doing anything out of the norm except for maybe doing an extra set of weights in my interval training. I was in utter pain and nothing was making me feel better. For two days, I had suffered and the pain seemed to be getting worse.

However, I remembered that I had received a package of SALONPAS pain patches in my goody bag from my spring 5k run. I had completely forgotten about them until this point. Out of desperation, I broke open the package and applied the pain patch to my shoulder. The patch is made of a super thin stretchy material that smells very menthol similar to Icy Hot. Not my favorite fragrance note, but it could have been worse. Upon application, the area around my shoulder turned immediately warm. This sensation subsided after 10 minutes or so. For best results, the directions said to leave the patch intact for 12 hours.

After 12 hours, I took the patch off and soaked in a warm bath. Per the directions, I applied my second patch but made an adjustment to its position so that it was closer to my shoulder blade. My husband helped me since it was a difficult spot to reach. When I removed the second patch, I noticed that the injured area was feeling significantly better. I had nearly pain-free rotation of my shoulder and the throbbing pain was almost gone. Since I had one more sample left, I applied it and left it on for the rest of the day.

When I removed the third patch, my shoulder pain was gone. No soreness, stiffness, just pain free! Now I wasn't going to push my luck and lift weights; however, I felt relatively back to normal. Ahh!

Better than Pumpkin Pie: Linnea's Lights Pumpkin Candle

Confession time...I despise eating pumpkin pie. I know that's totally wrong especially during the month of November when more than 50 million pies are consumed on Thanksgiving Day alone. But my food tastes have always been a bit off. However, I completely adore its spicy aroma of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. My nose can't get enough.

A Little Brush of Greatness: Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush

After many months of ditching my foundation brush, I have finally given in and started using one again. However, it took Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush — a little brush of greatness — to change my ways.

Perfect Foundation Brush is probably one of the most versatile brushes that I've encountered in several years. It's designed for all foundation formulas including creams, powders, liquids. The brush's bristles are slightly contoured — more than a regular flat-top brush — allowing you to easily reach all the nooks and crannies without any streaking. Plus, I love its short handle and compact brush head which are ideal for carrying in my small makeup bag when I travel.

I've been using the brush to apply Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA, which is a water-based, liquid foundation. Because of the foundation's light consistency, I had previously found that I had better application success with my fingers. I had tried several reliable foundation brushes, but I couldn't get an even application. Yet, this is not the case with Perfect Foundation Brush. I've been able to easily blend any lines of demarcation for a near air-brushed effect. And with the brush I get a bit more coverage without product waste.

I also discovered that it works beautifully to blend my under-eye concealer. I can get right up to my lash line and ensure just the right level of coverage.

Bobbi Brown Brush Cleaning Spray: I can't get enough (Review January 2010). I need to find the frequent-buyer discount for this product. But at least my brushes are uber clean.(Repurchase: Check!)
Trish McEvoy Deep Taupe Eye Shadow: This is my go-to crease shadow that always performs well. It's a neutral brown, plum, taupey shade that blends like a dream. (Repurchase: I rarely buy a shadow twice, but I'll make the exception for this one.)

Molton Brown Intoxicating Davana Blossom Foaming Bath Oil: This was an awesome bath treat that I gave myself after completing my first 5k run (Review June 2011). (Skip: This bath product was a one-time luxury item, so I will not repurchase it at this time.)

LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter: This hand and cuticle product has lasted for months and months, and my hands look (and feel) uber soft (Review March 2011). (Skip: Just for now! I have some other hand products to try. Of course, I might weaken if I get near a LUSH store during my travels next week.)
Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant & Deodorant Advanced Solid (Sensitive Skin version): It's the best in class (Review Nov. 2010)! I've been very impressed with this deodorant since I started using it last fall. (Repurchase: I purchased it online and I'm waiting for it to arrive. In the mean time, I'm using a travel-size version of the same product.)
Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA (B10 shade): I always do a happy dance when I completely finish a foundation. I switch around now and again, so it usually takes me ages to do it. However, this is not the case with Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA (Review March 2011). I have used this product nearly everyday since February. (Backup: I repurchased another bottle during Nordstrom's last triple reward points event.)
Sonya Dakar Nourishing Body Oil (in Verbena Cypress): I've finished my second bottle since I started using it last fall (Review November 2010). Sadly, I've fallen out of love with this product. (Skip: I can't justify its $65 price tag anymore.)

NY + Coffee Inspired Fragrance = Bond No. 9 New York for All

A cup of coffee along with my vacation memories of New York...ah, it can't get any better than this. Or, can it?

Well...in one word, YES! I was recently given a generous sample of Bond No. 9 I LOVE NY for ALL from my all-time favorite fragrance house and it rocked my world. Imagine...good ol' java mixed with notes of bergamot, muguet, pepper, cocoa lmr, creamy chestnut, patchouli, vanilla, leatherwood, and sandalwood.

Give it 20 minutes on my skin and it's one of the warmest and creamiest fragrances around. Normally I tend to avoid fragrances with patchouli, but I really don't detect it in this fragrance. I pick up more of the coffee, chestnut, and leatherwood notes. Yum!

I LOVE NY for ALL is definitely a fall-inspired fragrance that is perfect for everyday wear. It's a little off the beaten path, too. You won't be smelling this one on every Jane and Joe. (And yes, it's perfect for the guys too.)

My Faithful, Bubbly Friend: Origins Ginger Float

I've always been a bubble bath girl. And, I can never resist the latest and greatest bubbly products. However, sometimes you need to return to those ever faithful products that first got you hooked. For me, it was Origins Ginger Float — a creamy, bubbling bath elixir with a citrusy-crisp scent of lush, lighthearted lemon, lime, and bergamot.

I can't remember the details on how I discovered this ginger bubble product, but I know it happened sometime during the late 90s. I was probably strolling the local mall and accidentally fell into an Origins store. That's how it usually works!

Several weeks ago I was reacquainted with this old friend, and oh, what a reunion! For five nights straight, I downed my sorrows and day's stress with a big dose of Ginger Float bubbles. This dreamy bath product soothed my soul and my skin. I couldn't get enough! To be sure, this item will once again be a steady staple in my bathroom.

A Fall Plum Lip Gloss for Everyone: Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Mauve Plum

The calendar reminds me that summer is officially over and winter is approaching quickly. This means I'm slowly putting away my coral and peach lippies and reaching for the darker fall hues. One of my latest finds is Laura Mercier's Lip Glacé in Mauve Plum. It has been described as one of those hues that are flattering for all skin tones. On me, it's a neutral plum that isn't too cool or warm.

This high-shine, perfectly pigmented lip gloss provides rich, long-lasting color and brilliant shine without drying out my lips. During these transitional months, my skin and lips tend to get super dry, so I usually avoid lipsticks since they tend to be more drying. However, that doesn't mean that I compromise on color payoff! This gloss is nicely pigmented and lasts for several hours between application.

Plus, it lays down easily on my lips without feathering or bleeding. No need for a lip liner here! And, it smells yummy — just like almonds with a hint of vanilla. It's very reminiscent of Laura's Almond Coconut bath products.

Molton Brown Intoxicating Davana Blossom Foaming Bath Oil: This was an awesome bath treat that I gave myself after completing my first 5k run (Review June 2011). (Skip: This bath product was a one-time luxury item, so I will not repurchase it at this time.)
LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter: This hand and cuticle product has lasted for months and months, and my hands look (and feel) uber soft (Review March 2011). (Skip: Just for now! I have some other hand products to try. Of course, I might weaken if I get near a LUSH store during my travels next week.)
Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant & Deodorant Advanced Solid (Sensitive Skin version): It's the best in class (Review Nov. 2010)! I've been very impressed with this deodorant since I started using it last fall. (Repurchase: I purchased it online and I'm waiting for it to arrive. In the mean time, I'm using a travel-size version of the same product.)
Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA (B10 shade): I always do a happy dance when I completely finish a foundation. I switch around now and again, so it usually takes me ages to do it. However, this is not the case with Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA (Review March 2011). I have used this product nearly everyday since February. (Backup: I repurchased another bottle during Nordstrom's last triple reward points event.)
Sonya Dakar Nourishing Body Oil (in Verbena Cypress): I've finished my second bottle since I started using it last fall (Review November 2010). Sadly, I've fallen out of love with this product. (Skip: I can't justify its $65 price tag anymore.)

Lodus Business Card Case - This red card case matches the Trish one perfectly! I keep business cards and extra credit cards/discount cards in this case. It allows me to carry a smaller wallet!
Acme Alphabet Pen - I am a total pen person. I love this hefty rollerball since I can easily find it inside my purse. And it writes like a dream.
Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Lip Gloss in Sexy Peach - This is my holy grail gloss! I'm so bummed that this coral-peachy shade is now discontinued.
Bath & Body Works PocketBac Gel in Fresh Lime Basil - I always keep a small hand sanitizer in my purse for those times when I can't wash my hands. This one smells yummy and seems less drying.
Essie Glass Nail File - This petite-size file is perfect for my purse.

Not My Perfect Match: Chanel PERFECTION LUMIÈRE Foundation

I've been on a lucky streak with Chanel foundations and concealers, so I couldn't wait to try the company's newest foundation — Chanel PERFECTION LUMIÈRE. This oil-free, long-lasting foundation is a replacement of PRO LUMIÈRE and provides fuller (and more matte) coverage than VITALUMIÈRE AQUA, which has been my favorite formula to date.

Unlike some of Chanel's other foundation formulas with limited shade availability, PERFECTION LUMIÈRE comes in 20 different shades, providing color matches for those with both fair and dark complexions. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones. The makeup artist at my local Chanel counter matched me as Beige Rose 12, which was way too pink for my complexion. It made my skin look ruddy, and it seemed to get even pinker with time. I initially thought that Beige 10 would be perfect since it was the same shade that I use in VITALUMIÈRE AQUA, but it was too yellow. My best match would probably be a combination of the two shades.

With the exception of the color match, how did it wear? Honestly, I wasn't impressed. It went on extremely thick and I felt very "made up." This formula might work for a photo shoot or special occasion where you might want fuller coverage, but for me it's very unnatural for daytime use. However, I did notice that my blush stayed put all day. It really provided a good base for keeping my other makeup intact.

While it is designed for all skin types, I felt it to be drying on my normal-to-dry complexion. But to be fair, I did wear it on a weekend that was dry and windy, so my complexion may have been drier than normal.

All in all, PERFECTION LUMIÈRE did stay put all day. However, it just wasn't a good match for me. But like anything, foundation is very personal. You need to experiment and use what works best for you! Here's another formula that you may want to try.

A Healthy Dose of Vanilla and Lavender: LAVANILA The Healthy Body Wash 2-In-1 Shower & Shave

On a recent weekend getaway, I forgot to bring my own soap/body wash. Hotels and motels supply it, but my sensitive skin doesn't tolerate just anything. I found that I really need to avoid sulfates or pay the consequences of irritation, redness, or body breakouts. So what does a girl do? Yes, a trip to Sephora was on the first day's itinerary.

After doing an ingredient and sniff test, I purchased LAVANILA's The Healthy Wash 2-In-1 Shower & Shave in Vanilla Lavender scent. This decadent body wash provides gentle cleansing and soft, silky shaving in one step. It's full of hydrating coconut and rosehip oils that are blended with soothing aloe and calendula for a luxuriously lathering wash that deeply nourishes while you cleanse and prevents irritation as you shave.

I loved how its gentle formula suds like nothing else. In fact, I made it a 3-In-1 since I found it also made the perfect bubble bath. It's very concentrated so all you need is a quarter size dollop for a tub full of bubbles!

My Undereye Magic Wand: Chanel Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer

Finding the right under-eye concealer can be a quest of a lifetime. Seriously, it's taken me years to find a match in both color and consistency that reacts favorably on my skin. And just when I think I've found the right one, something evil happens. But not this time...fingers crossed!

Last spring when I started wearing Chanel VITALUMIÈRE AQUA foundation, I started visiting Chanel counters more frequently. I've always been a Chanel lurker, but honestly I wasn't too familiar with their makeup products other than nail polish. During one visit, I noticed Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer, a wand-style concealer positioned right next to the foundations. I picked up one of the lighter shades, Beige Ivoire 10, and tested it on the back of my shade. Immediately, I liked its light-weight consistency and smooth texture.

Correcteur Perfection reminded me of Trish McEvoy's Flawless Concealer, which has always worked well on my skin, although I don't feel my shade (Shade 2) was the best match. When I wore VITALUMIÈRE AQUA with the Trish's Flawless Concealer, I could see a faint line where the concealer and foundation overlapped. Personally, I needed a bit more yellow tones in my concealer and it could be a tad lighter. Also, Flawless Concealer didn't always stay intact all day. There were days when I often needed a touch-up by late afternoon.

When I applied Correcteur Perfection to my under-eye area, it blended easily without any lines of demarcation between it and my foundation. And there was no need to set with powder or follow up with any other product (e.g. color corrector, highlighter, etc.). It looked like it was a custom blend for me! Yet before purchasing, I took it for a test drive for the rest of the day. It wore brilliantly. It didn't cake or flake! Also, my under-eye area was nicely hydrated, but not oily.

Yes, I was sold! I've now worn Correcteur Perfection throughout the warm summer months and into early fall. And it's worked equally well for both humid and dry days. For best results, I apply several small dots with the wand and then blend with Trish's The Point brush. If I'm in a hurry, I can also blend it with my fingertips. However, I do prefer the brush as I can get closer to my lash line.

September Recap: Use It Up Product Challenge

While the total number seems high, I'm still amazed how rarely I finish up eye shadows, blushes, and lip products. I guess I've discovered my weakness!

Matrix Biolage hydrathérapie Conditioning Balm: This conditioner is still a winner in my book. (Review June 2010, Mention Dec. 2010). I picked it up on vacation in June 2010 and I'm still pretty much using Conditioning Balm exclusively even after the formula changed. (Repurchase: I plan to buy another one today!)

Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials (Sheer Gold shade): I use one of Trish's Eye Bases on a daily basis. While Demure is my very favorite shade, Sheer Gold is a nice substitute when I want something with a little more warmth and sparkle. The only challenge is that this shade doesn't seem to be as creamy in texture and takes a little more patience to apply. (Backup: I bought one several months ago when I need an extra item to quality for free shipping.)
John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Detangler: This is my go-to, leave-in conditioner that replaced my beloved, and discontinued, Kiehl's Leave-In Conditioner (Review January 2011). And, I think I love this one even more. (Repurchase: I tried to find it at my usual place, but they were out. I purchased a similar John Master's product, Rosemary & Peppermint Detangler, which is supposed to be comparable but in a different scent. We'll see if it stacks up!)
LaLicious Sugar Soufflé Scrub (in Sugar): I forgot how awesome this scrub was (Review April 2009). I've been rotating in other ones for the past year or so and finally returned to LaLicious. (Repurchase: Yes. I bought another one, but in Coconut Cream.)

Lancôme 'Le Crayon Poudre' Brow Powder Pencil: I've been using this brow pencil on and off for a year or so (Review July 2010), but I've moved on. (Skip: I much prefer Bobbi Brown's Brow Pencil. I'll continue to use this item from my stash.)

Trish McEvoy Even Skin Beta Hydroxy Pads: I feel like I'm constantly reporting this item. I use one of these pads daily to wipe away the dead skin and give me a smoother complexion (Review January 2011). So...it's like clockwork that I'm buying every 40 days since there are 40 pads in a container! (Repurchase: Done! I bought two boxes yesterday.)

My Fall Lip Pencil Duo: NARS Velvet Matte & Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils

This fall I've been experimenting with different types of lip products in efforts to get out of my gloss rut. To shake things up a bit, I tried several lip pencils — not the liner style pencils, but rather the jumbo-sized versions that are intended to be similar to lipsticks or glosses.

I started at my local NARS counter since they offer several different formulas in a wide range of colors. My initial test was with the Velvet Matte Pencil, a long-wearing, super-saturated coverage in matte formula that nourishes the lips. This product seems more like a lipstick to me; however, it had a creamier texture than most lipsticks. I tested several different colors before choosing Pop Life. It's described as a shimmering true red, yet on me it pulls a bit warmer. It wears extremely well and fades gently without bleeding or leaving ugly residue behind.

My second test was with the Velvet Gloss Pencil, a gorgeously glossy color in an ultra-lightweight, moisture-rich formula. This pencil is comparable to a lip gloss. It is extremely buttery and feels good on the lips. I immediately gravitated towards Happy Days — a pink coral infused with gold shimmer. The only drawback is that this shade is super sheer. It didn't last too long on its own. Also, it's a pain to sharpen due to its soft consistency. Each time I've tried to sharpen it, I massacre the poor pencil. Someone suggested putting it in the freezer first before sharpening since it will harden it and allow for an even sharpening.

The unexpected joy in using these pencils is how well they complement each other. I've been applying Pop Life first and then topping it off with Happy Days for a glossier finish. Pure loveliness!

If you're looking to shake up your lip product routine, definately give these babies a try. There are oodles of shades to choose from so the options are limitless.

A Half Pound Bar of Milky Goodness: k. hall designs Milk Milled Shea Soap

Most of my life I've been moderately lactose intolerant. As such, the last time I drank a glass of milk I was in diapers. But just because I can't drink my milk doesn't mean I can't enjoy it in the shower. You heard me right..."milk in the shower (or bath)."

I'm utterly exhausted from working around the clock for the past six weeks. However, my skin is not showing the telltale signs of stress and lack of sleep. Why? Heavenly Healing Hair Moisture: Josie Maran Argan Oil

Curly hair usually equals dry hair. It's just nature of the beast. To combat dryness, I use a combination of items — from conditioners (deep, rinse out, and leave in) and styling products to natural oils. With every new season, I also find that I have to play with the product mix or suffer the ugly consequences...breakage and/or frizz. Not pretty.

Late summer I started experimenting with pure 100% argan oil in my hair routine after receiving a generous GWP sample from Sephora. I've used jojoba oil in the past, but it's been a while since I've tried other kinds of oils. Why natural oils? They are better than synthetic moisturizers because they are absorbed into the hair, while synthetic silicon moisturizers lay on top of the hair, making it appear dirty.

One of my new favorites is Josie Maran Argan Oil. It's a lightweight 100% organic oil that is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Before washing my hair, I've been pre-treating it once a week with one dropper full of oil. I rub the argan oil into my hands and then apply from roots to ends, while paying extra attention to my ends and other drier spots. I typically leave it in my hair for an hour or two and then wash out.

When my hair is dry, it is amazingly soft (but without flyaways) and super shiny. In fact, it almost looks like I've just had a veil of shine glaze added to my hair. And after an argan oil treatment, I've been able to go an extra day or two between washings. (And that means extra sleep for me!)

I've also tried adding a drop or two to my dry hair when I'm feeling like I need some extra moisture; however, I've had mixed results. It's hard to apply oil evenly to dry hair. But I will experiment more and see if I can find the right mix.

Lancôme 'Le Crayon Poudre' Brow Powder Pencil: I've been using this brow pencil on and off for a year or so (Review July 2010), but I've moved on. (Skip: I much prefer Bobbi Brown's Brow Pencil. I'll continue to use this item from my stash.)
Trish McEvoy Even Skin Beta Hydroxy Pads: I feel like I'm constantly reporting this item. I use one of these pads daily to wipe away the dead skin and give me a smoother complexion (Review January 2011). So...it's like clockwork that I'm buying every 40 days since there are 40 pads in a container! (Repurchase: Done! I bought two boxes yesterday.)

Easy, Effortless Brows: Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil

My beauty confession...I neglected my brows for nearly 30 years. While I have been very particular about the rest of my makeup, I just never quite understood the purpose of brow products. However, when I hit my thirties everything changed. (I'm sure it had something to do with my first eyebrow wax where an inexperienced technician nearly left me bald.)

Now I was suddenly very much aware of my sparse brow hair and needed a natural fix. Over the years, I've experimented with different types of products — pencils, powders, and gels — and was challenged to find the right shade that flattered my skin and hair color AND the right product consistency that stayed put all day. I'm fair with light/medium brown hair that often has auburn highlights. I've usually been recommended products that are way too dark for my complexion. And I looked exactly like Bert from Sesame Street.

I usually prefer using a matte brown powder eyeshadow for this task as it's easier to blend, there are more shades to choose from, and the overall effect is more natural. But most eye shadows are not long lasting, and I find traces of the color migrating onto my upper eye area. Not pretty!

My most recent brow discovery was Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in Grey. This is a softy creamy pencil that gives the look of powder, but with the precision of a pencil. It's super long lasting and never requires touch-ups during the day. And while the color is called Grey, it's really a lighter brown with neutral hues. I think this shade would work well for most lighter brunettes (cool and warm tones) who want to avoid the overly painted look of brows that are too dark. In general, you should use a brow color that is one shade lighter than your hair for the "My Brows But Better" look.

One Sharp Tool: NARS Pencil Sharpener

I'm lazy when it comes to keeping my lip and eye pencils sharpened. Once I sharpen one of these pencils for the first time, it seems like they're never restored to the original sharp point. And more often than not, the sharpeners eat up excess product and leave you with a wonky pencil. Well...perhaps, I was just using the wrong tool.

To qualify for free shipping on a recent purchase, I added the NARS Pencil Sharpener to my order. And, what a deal! This little sharpener performed its magic on all of my dull pencils — even the larger, chubby ones that rarely fit most other sharpeners now had a precise point. And to accommodate different pencil sizes, the sharpener includes a removable adapter.

My only gripe with the tool is that the cover that comes off to empty the pencil shavings doesn't stay on very well. If I kept the sharpener in my makeup bag, I'd secure it in a snack-sized Ziploc bag to prevent an ugly mess.

My Happy-Face Duo for Longer-Lasting Makeup Wear

I have normal to dry skin that is prone to sensitivities. While I experiment with my eye makeup and lip products, I do try to minimize the layers of facial products — primers, illuminators, foundation, powder, etc. This way if I do have a problem it's easy (well...easier) to pinpoint the culprit.

The drawback to my minimalist approach is that my facial makeup (foundation, concealer, blush) doesn't always stay intact all day. By late afternoon, it's starting to fade. I mentioned this concern to a makeup counter manager at my local Nordstrom, and she pointed me to Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder. It's an invisible powder that is designed to flawlessly set makeup for all-day wear. And it is intended for all skin tones and types.

I initially cringed as most powders tend to get cakey and powdery on my skin, and bring attention to my drier spots. However, I decided to give it a whirl and oh what a difference it has made!

I apply Invisible Loose Setting Powder after my foundation and concealer. A little goes a long way with this powder, so you want to apply very, very lightly. I find that Trish McEvoy's Brush 62 Fan is the ideal tool for dispensing this invisible veil of powder. (Likewise, Laura Mercier makes a fan powder brush.) I gently dip my brush into the powder, tap off the excess, and then sweep over my t-zone and cheeks. If I apply too much, I'll go over the area with a large powder puff to remove any excess. Once I'm done, I then move on to blush and/or bronzer.

Week of August 22 & 29:

Trish McEvoy Eye Definer Pencil (Antique Silver): I used this one all the way down until I could no longer sharpen it! (Skip: It's very similar in shade to Trish's 24-Hour Shadow and Liner in Crystal Gray. Plus, I prefer a liner that doesn't need to be sharpened.)

Week of August 15:

Bobbi Brown Brush Cleaning Spray: I've tried a few other brush cleaning sprays, but I faithfully return to Bobbi every time (Review January 2010). Plus, it's alcohol free so I never have to worry about it destroying my high-end natural hair brushes. I used to go through a can of this spray almost monthly, but I found that it goes further if I don't use this product to clean my foundation brush. Instead, I rinse my brush out at the sink with water or use a shampoo-style cleaner to remove all the gunk. (Repurchase: By all means!)

Week of August 8th:

Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish: This is one of those luxurious, and pricy, body scrubs that I buy maybe once a year when I need a special treat. While I could use it all the time, I can't justify its price tag right now especially when I finish off one container in less than 6 weeks. (Skip: I have another scrub that I plan to use.)

Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Serum: I've been using this serum nearly exclusively since 2009 as part of my morning routine (Review October 2009). (Skip: I've decided to take a break from a facial serum thanks to the prompting of the TODAY segment. I have a sample of another brand that I may test in a week or two. But for now I'll be going serum-free!)
Caudalie Cleansing Water: I actually finished up this item several weeks ago, but forgot to add it to the list! Like Trish's serum, this item has also been a staple for more than a year (Review June 2009). (Replacement: I'm now using Bioderma's Crealine H2O Miscellar Solution that I purchased in France. To make it last even longer, I've decanted the product into one of Sephora's flip top bottles so that I can use each and every ounce of product.

Week of August 1st:

REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask: This facial mask is still a holy grail contender for me (Review January 2010). I use it weekly for gentle, but deep exfoliation and an all-over glow. (Backup: I purchased a bottle during a recent 20% off sale.)

Neocutis LUMIÈRE Bio-restorative Eye Cream: I started using this eye cream at the beginning of year, and it's probably the only eye product I've ever used up completely (Review February 2011). A Conversation-Starter Scent: Trish McEvoy Black Rose Oud

A remarkable scent can stop even strangers in their tracks. I witnessed this truth last month on the first day I wore Trish McEvoy Black Rose Oud. I was given a test spray at my local counter. I had no intention of purchasing, but I thought I'd be polite to the makeup artist who gave me the complimentary spritz.

Not even 15 minutes passed and I was stopped by a stranger in the Nordstrom shoe department inquiring about the scent. I pointed her to the Trish counter and she made a beeline. Later I was grabbing coffee in the food court, and I was asked again. What this a complete coincidence, or did I hit the jackpot with a new signature scent? When I arrived home, my husband even commented on the scent, "Wow, you smell good!" This is a rare moment in our household as my husband's sense of smell is horrendous. There could be a decaying body in the room and he wouldn't be able to detect it.

This series of events convinced me that Black Rose Oud was intended for me. And yes, I drove back to the mall the next day and purchased!

Black Rose Oud is unlike most rose fragrances, which I typically loathe. (It's a rose thing.) Instead, Black Rose Oud infuses a blend of exotic spices and sensual woods that I find downplay the floral notes of the rose. It's sweeter with lingering bits of cedar and maybe even leather. Normally I associate those notes with men's fragrance, but this one is definitely feminine. And to switch it up, I'll wear Black Rose Oud layered over Trish's No. 9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk for yet a different combination.

One of the instant attractions to this scent was its longevity. Most perfumes, including Trish's other fragrances, do not last more than a hour or two on my skin. But this one lingers on and on for the entire day. In fact, I'll open my closet and still smell it on my clothes several days later.

While this is a splurge-worthy scent, it's completely worth it!

Effortless Eyeliner: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour

Makeup application is not meant to be rocket science. It should be quick, easy, and complementary to your natural beauty. When I find a product that helps me do that AND get out the door even faster, I'm all over it!

One of my recent eye makeup finds is Laura Mercier's Caviar Stick Eye Colour. This product is a creamy formula eye color pencil that is long-wearing, transfer- and crease-resistant. It can be used as a smoky liner or applied over the eyelid for a more dramatic look. I'm preferring to use it as a liner for my everyday look.

The Caviar Stick is very reminiscent of Trish McEvoy's 24-Hour Eye Shadow and Liner, one of my all-time favorite eye products, that stays put longer that anything else I've tried. In contrast, I find that Laura's formula is more buttery, super blendable, and glides across the eye even easier. With that said, I've had to use lighter pressure than with Trish's product otherwise I go overboard. I also find the Caviar Stick has a richer pigment so it requires less product for the same effect.

Plus, it does take a little longer to dry than Trish's, so you can easily sweep a brush through to blend out more if needed. Sometimes Trish's liner dries so quickly that you don't have time to blend.

So how does it hold up during the day? Not bad. It stays put for a good 6 to 8 hours even during humidity (and my last workout) with little wear. But if you're wanting a longer lasting formula, Trish's product wins in this camp. I can apply it in the morning and it doesn't move until I remove it at night. I tend to have watery eyes and wear contacts, so I may not be the best judge.

I purchased the color, Smoke, a charcoal shade with silver pearl. There are 7 other color choices, so there should be a perfect shade (or two) for most individuals.

All in all, it's a creamy, effortless liner that will be a great addition to your fall makeup wardrobe.

A Tropical Treat for the Bath: Cake Beauty Desserted Island Supremely Rich Bath & Shower Froth

Desserted Island is one of the frothiest bubble baths that I've tried in a long time. And it's chocked full of hydrating virgin oil de coco crème and vitamin E that will leave your skin supple, smooth, and unforgettably moisturized. Best of all, it smells like delicious Tahitian vanilla and fresh coconut. Yum, yum!

Now I just need a good excuse to take a Friday afternoon bath.

A Streak-Free Shine for Your Shower: simplehuman foldaway squeegee

Since I review skincare items that I use in my shower, I thought today that I'd give a quick nod to one brilliant item that I use everyday on my shower — simplehuman foldaway squeegee. When we remodeled our master bathroom five years ago, we installed the most beautiful, sparkly glass shower stall. It was pretty and streak-free for about a week. After that point, I realized how important it is to squeegee your shower after each use to keep it looking clean and streak free.

However, there are good squeegees and bad ones. And it doesn't take one long to discover which one you're using! After about the 10th replacement, I finally discovered simplehuman foldaway squeegee. What a difference!

So what makes this squeegee unique? Most important...its angled blade gets every corner, even the narrow sides, of my shower without leaving streaks. I never have to take a second pass. It smoothly glides over the shower glass and stone walls without missing a spot. When I'm done, I just push the black button and it magically folds up for easy storage on the side of my shower. My last squeegee was so big that it never dried out (thus the ugly black mold) and it was always in the way. And not to be overlooked in its keys features, the simplehuman product is rust proof and comes with a five-year warranty.

My only complaint...this model also comes with a nifty suction cup for hanging the squeegee when you're not using it. While I think it's a practical hanging solution, I never can get it to stay put on the stone walls. The suction cup slips right off the shower walls. Maybe, I should try moving it to the glass, instead.

An Eyeshadow Palette for All Seasons: Bobbi Brown Sand Tortoise Shell Eye Palette

In a previous post, I hinted that I broke my "no buy" eye shadow palette rule. I'm a sucker for these items, and I vowed to stop purchasing palettes because they were too often under used. However, I caved for Bobbi Brown's new Sand Tortoise Shell Eye Palette, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Bobbi Brown is the queen of neutral shadow palettes. She releases several limited-edition ones each year, and most colors are universally flattering. For this early Fall 2011 release, she introduced two palettes. Sand Tortoise Shell is designed for light skin tones; Bronze Tortoise Shell is for medium to dark complexions. I purchased the Sand version since I fall into the first category. (For reference, I wear "Sand" shade in most of her foundations, which is near the MAC NC15-20 range. I do lean more neutral than warm.)

Sand Tortoise Shell includes eight soft, warm neutrals that can be worn individually or layered depending on your desired look or occasion. Eye Makeup Be Gone: Bioderma Crealine H2O Micellar Solution

Last week I was experimenting with a new eyeliner technique...trying to perfect my winged/kitten eye effect. In doing so, I was constantly taking off my eye makeup. After about 10 attempts, the corners of my eyes were extremely irritated. You see I had finished off my favorite eye makeup remover — Caudalie Cleansing Water — and was reaching for anything (samples, etc.) that could do the job. A serious bad move on my part!

The good news is that while plowing through my makeup remover samples, I discovered a recent European find from my spring trip to France — Bioderma Crealine H2O Miscellar Solution. I had read about this brilliant makeup remover before my trip, so I made sure to pick up a bottle from a pharmacy in Lyon. (Travel tip...French pharmacies are skincare havens. Don't leave France without visiting one or two!) I had used Crealine H2O on my trip, but forgot that I had brought the bottle home with me.

Crealine H2O is an unscented makeup remover and cleansing solution that is super gentle on the skin. It is a non-detergent and non-foaming formula with a neutral pH. I apply a generous amount to a cotton pad and then wipe the pad over the entire eye area. It gently lifts all my makeup — including waterproof mascara — without leaving behind any residue. It's perfect for cleaning up makeup boo-boos or removing your makeup at the end of the day. While I've used Caudalie Cleansing Water for years, I felt that Crealine H2O did a better job. Sometimes the Caudalie product leaves behind a bit of sticky film that needs to be rinsed off.

My biggest goof — not bringing home an entire suitcase of Crealine H2O!

This week I plowed through several higher end facial skincare items that are a part of my regular routine. Thankfully I don't go through these items too quickly or my wallet would be suffering. But my face is happy, and so am I!

Week of August 1st:

REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask: This facial mask is still a holy grail contender for me (Review January 2010). I use it weekly for gentle, but deep exfoliation and an all-over glow. (Backup: I purchased a bottle during a recent 20% off sale.)
Neocutis LUMIÈRE Bio-restorative Eye Cream: I started using this eye cream at the beginning of year, and it's probably the only eye product I've ever used up completely (Review February 2011). I'm so fickle with eye creams — always on the lookout for something even better — but this one reeled me in. (Skip: I have several GWP-sized samples of a few others that I should try. However, I have a strong feeling that I'll be purchasing another LUMIÈRE in the near future.
Trish McEvoy Even Skin Beta Hydroxy Pads: I use one of these pads daily to wipe away the dead skin and give me a smoother complexion (Review January 2011). So...it's like clockwork that I'm restocking every 40 days since there are 40 pads in a container! (Repurchase: Done!)

Better (Almost) than a Day at the Beach: Lafco Beach House (Sea & Dune) Candle

There's something so utterly wrong with this picture. It's a gorgeous August day. I live less than 2 miles away from the Pacific Ocean, and I'm stuck on back to back conference calls all day. But at least I have a cheery home office, the breeze is blowing through the windows, and I don't have a sunburn...right?

During these indoor summer days, I seek creative ways to be reminded of the lovely beach that's not so far away. One of my new favorite finds is Lafco's Beach House (Sea and Dune) Candle. This is an uber luxury soy-blend candle with fragrance notes of blue lotus, cyclamen, and wild grasses. It's a super clean, green scent that is well suited for my home office, providing up to 90 hours of burn time. I'm really picky about candles scents for this particular location since I don't want anything too heavy or floral. For me, the scent needs to be very uplifting and peaceful since I'm very work focused and need to stay on task.

Just like all of the Lafco home candles (see previous review), the Beach House is contained in a hand-blown glass vessel that is as luxurious as the candle itself. I've been using two empty vessels for storing makeup brushes. They are the perfect height and make a lovely presentation on my bathroom counter.

July Recap: Use It Up Product Challenge

Where did July go? Seriously...I feel like summer just started, especially here in SoCal where we've had a very mild summer. And, I'm not quite ready yet to begin facing all of the fall clothes, makeup palettes, etc. Will somebody please turn back the calendar and bring me back my summer? Thank you!

Off my soapbox...and back on topic. Here's to another month of using up my stuff. If you haven't been following my blog, I've been tracking my product usage since the first of the year. To date, I've completely used a grand total of 62 items. Yikes...

Week of July 25th:

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 60 PA+++: This is still my family's sunscreen of choice for those days when you'll get serious rays (Review Aug. 2010). We love its non-greasy consistency without white residue or shine. (Repurchase: I bought a new bottle last weekend.)
Neocutis JOURNÉE Bio-restorative Day Cream: This is my go-to sunscreen (SPF 30) and moisturizer for the other days — those when I'm mostly indoors or getting very minimal sun exposure (Review Apr. 2011). (Backup: I bought an extra bottle several weeks ago when it was on sale!)
Trish McEvoy Liquid Face Color: This is an unusual liquid blush/tint product that I rediscovered in my own stash (Review Mar 2009). I purchased it more than two years ago and used it off and on. But I brought it back to life by finding a new use! I've been mixing it with Trish's Bronze Lumizer (a liquid bronzer pen) for my own custom blush color. It's a brilliant find! (Backup: I must have purchased an extra one at some point in time as I found an unopened box in my drawer.)

Week of July 18th:

Laura Mercier Crème de Pistache Honey Bath: I've been rotating one of the honey baths for the past year or so (Review Mar. 2010). By far, pistache is my favorite scent! (Skip: I'll hold off from repurchasing until I finish some other bubble bath products.)

L'Occitane Amande Shower Oil: My shaving staple that has recently been adopted by my husband (Review Nov. 2009, Mention July 2011). (Repurchase: Done! I purchased the big monster bottle when L'Occitane was doing a summer promotion.)
Sonya Dakar Daily Wash: This has been a lifesaver for back breakouts (Review: Jan. 2011). I've tried similar products, but nothing works quite as well. (Repurchase: I ordered a new bottle from DermStore this week.)
Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant & Deodorant Advanced Solid (Sensitive Skin version): It's the best in class (Review Nov. 2010)! I've been very impressed with this deodorant since I started using it last fall. (Repurchase: Done.)

Kiehl's Creme de Corps: This is my all-time favorite body moisturizer (Review April 2009). As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I typically buy it in the liter size bottle and this will usually last for six to seven months. However, my husband is using it more frequently, so I may need to restock more frequently. (Repurchase: I bought this last week as part of my early-access Nordstrom Anniversary sale purchase.)

Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials (Demure shade): Here's another favorite stash item that surpasses any other eye shadow primer I've tried (Review March 2010). The Demure shade is a perfect match for my lid with a little bit of sparkle. (Use spare: I always keep a back up just in case!)
Yes To Cucumbers On The Go Facial Towelettes: I got hooked on these makeup up wipes during my trip to France and Belgium (Review May 2011). However, now that I'm back home I don't reach for them too often. It's just as easy for me to use makeup remover and a cotton pad when I'm not on the road. I've been in the shopping/looking mood lately. It seems like once the Nordstrom Anniversary sale hit on the 15th, I was dropping the dough. Here are some items that caught my eye — and often wallet — this month:

Deborah Lippman Fall Nail Color in Brick House: I'm always a sucker for orange polish and this rust metallic hue will be perfect once the seasons change. I spotted it during the Anniversary Sale. Available at Nordstrom.com for $16.00.
Tupelo Dress: I found this festive, vintage-inspired dress at my local Anthropologie. They were out of my size, so I've placed it on my "wish list" in hopes that I'll be able to try it on soon. Available at Anthropologie.com for $168.00.
Trish McEvoy Black Rose Oud Eau De Parfum: This is the first rose fragrance that has completely knocked me off my feet...in a good way. The Perfect Summer-Weight Foundation: Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15

Choosing the right weight of foundation for summertime wear can be challenging. You don't want to compromise on coverage, but you also don't want anything heavy that either: 1) melts off your face, or, 2) sufficates your pores.

Many ladies will immediately transition to a mineral powder foundation once the thermostat hits 80 degrees. However, if you are prone to skin sensitivities or have dry skin, mineral makeup can introduce more issues. Several years ago, I eventually threw in the towel after trying nearly every mineral powder on the market. Ugly symptoms included: breakouts, flaky dry patches, and even shiny skin.

But this summer I discovered Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15 (in Real Sand — a warm, beige ivory shade for fair to light skin tones), and it is working well for both my skin type and complexion color! Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15 is a finely milled powder that is composed completely of natural elements with 15 active amino acids. It's described as both oil free and water resistant and available in eight shades. And it comes in nifty container that can be adjusted for dispensing just the right amount of powder. Twist the plastic sifter section closed, and you can cover the holes so that the powder doesn't fly out when you're not using it. Brilliant!

One quick glimpse at the ingredient list and you'll see that it's short — a good indication that there are fewer ingredients that you could potentially be sensitive to. (Side note: If you are prone to sensitivities, look for fewer ingredients in your products. This way it makes it easier to eliminate the offending culprit if you do experience a problem.)

It's a very buildable product that delivers a good punch of long-lasting pigment. For a sheerer application, use a big fluffy kabuki brush (see my review). Or, choose a dense, flat-top brush for full powder coverage. My favorite brushes for this task are Trish McEvoy's M20 Face Blender Brush or Jane Iredale's The Handy Brush. Both of these brushes are uber soft, but they pick up more powder than a kabuki for additional coverage.

I'm amazed at how well this mineral powder lasts throughout the day and balances my skin. I have the perfect satin-finish summer glow! My oilier spots are not shiny, and my drier areas are not emphasized like they normally are with mineral powder foundations. If you are prone to oiliness, you may want to use a primer underneath the mineral powder and/or set with a finishing/setting powder. Laura Mercier offers a variety of primers and setting powders. Consult with a makeup artist for your individual skin type needs.

I'd recommend getting color matched at a counter for best results. If I went by the color shades descriptions listed on the web, I'd have chosen a shade that was too fair for my complexion.

My Mineral Makeup's Best Friend: Bobbi Brown Face Brush

With the recent wave of warm/humid summer weather, I've made some adjusting to my makeup routine. I've temporarily shelved my liquid foundation in favor of a lighter mineral powder. In doing so, I've been reaching frequently for Bobbi Brown's Face Brush —a much-loved, but forgotten brush in my stash to apply the powder.

Last year I received this brush as a hand-me-down item from one of my friends. She wasn't using it anymore and thought I'd give it a good home. I used it several times, but it was pushed to the back of my makeup drawer since I was using liquid foundations at the time.

Bobbi Brown Face Brush is a short handled, big fluffy kabuki brush that is extremely soft and easy to maneuver when I apply my mineral powder. This brush is ideal for a sheer wash of powder. If you want a heavier application of product, you probably would be happier with a denser flat-top brush. And similar to a large makeup powder puff, you can also use the Face Brush for buffing out all of your powder products (blush, bronzer, etc.) to remove any lines of product demarcation — the telltale signs that you haven't applied your product evenly.

I love how well the Face Brush holds it shape well even after shampoo cleaning. One of my pet peeves of other kabuki-style brushes is that they don't wash well. I've had several where the bristles start falling out in clumps after the first or second wash or the bristles dry in an odd clump, not the original formation.

My Summer Staycation Soap: Mistral Coco Lime French Soap

Tropical breezes with a twist of coconut and lime. It couldn't get any better than this unless I am vacationing in a foreign beach destination with a tropical drink in hand. But alas, I'm still home in SoCal.

To make my staycation a little more tropical, I'm using Mistral's Coco Lime French Soap. I'm quite addicted to these uber moisturizing body soaps (see previous review: Winter Pine) that are perfect for my finicky skin. Even my husband enjoys these soaps as long as I don't choose a foo-foo fragrance.

Coco Lime is perfect for summer with its tropical scent combo. According to the Mistra site, Coco Lime features the following aromatic composition:

Top: Lime, Bergamot, Cassis, Grapefruit
Middle: Coconut, Peach, Mandarin, Jasmine
Base: Rosewood

I mostly pick up on its lime and coconut notes. In any case, it's perfect — and very affordable — for my summer staycation.

I fell head over heels in love with Kiehl's products during a trip to NYC in 2005. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the company's flagship store and get introduced to all of their lovely skin and haircare items. To date, I'm still faithfully using Creme de Corps lotion everyday!

For those living in NYC or visiting the Big Apple, you can soon take advantage of Kiehl's new spa, Spa 1851, which is located at 157 East 64th Street at Lexington Avenue. Borrowed Beauty Goods: A Few of My Husband's Favorites

Most husbands and significant others will never admit that they "borrow" your beauty and skincare items. But it doesn't take a detective for us to discover that our precious items have been consumed by others from time to time. After careful observation, I've noticed that my husband frequently uses these items from my stash:

Bond No. 9 New York Wall Street: This baby was my first luxury perfume purchase from the Bond No. 9 flagship store. While I loved its marine and herbal notes, Wall Street was just way too masculine for me. I'm so glad it found a new home! Now I can enjoy it on my favorite guy. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15: This one surprised me the most. I couldn't believe it when I found my tube in his jeans pocket! Thankfully I discovered it before I washed the jeans. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is a super hydrating lip balm with a yummy sugar scent. Glad he has such good taste in lip products. The Mini-Skincare Multitasker for Your Handbag: Trish McEvoy Luxe Moisture Balm SPF 15

This summer I've packed away my suitcase-sized handbags in favor of a small cross-body bag. It's so much lighter and my back is thanking me for the relief! As a result, I've had to drastically limit the number of items in my handbag, especially all of those duplicate skincare and cosmetic products. To make this transition easier, I'm relying more on multipurpose items. One of my current favorites is Trish McEvoy's Luxe Moisture Balm SPF 15 — a highly-concentrated stick wonder balm that fits nicely in my bag's side pocket.

I initially purchased Luxe Moisture Balm as a lip treatment. However, I found that I had a hard time tolerating it on my lips since it tasted terrible. (I know. You shouldn't be licking your lip products!) I shelved the product for a while, but picked it up again when I needed some instant relief for my cuticles. It's super moisturizing and my cuticles never felt better.

It was at this point that I saw the SPF 15 printed on the tube. And, the light bulb went on! I immediately started using it on the backs of my hands since this is one area that I always forget to apply sunscreen. It glides on easily (even while driving...no lectures please) without getting the rest of your hands sticky. And because it is tackier in consistency, the product seems to last much longer than other sunscreen formulas.

I've also used it as a sunscreen on my hair part, under eyes, and tops of my ears. Even with all of this usage, the balm looks nearly brand new. At this rate, I'll still be on tube #1 this time next year.
